The Name Game

Kwame and I have finally settled on a name for our baby girl!  We've had countless suggestions over the past few months and we are thankful for everyone's input, but the name we chose wasn't one of them.  The name that we chose is actually the very first name that we discussed some many many months ago.  We selected this name not only because we think it's beautiful, but because it is a name that has significance to both of us.  The name we've chosen for our baby girl is Payton.  The name Payton holds a very special place in the hearts of my immediate family, and I've loved the name since I was a kid ... for Kwame, Payton is his mother Niyonu's maiden name.

Now you may be wondering what the baby's middle name is ... well, so are we!  In choosing a middle name we've decided to follow the traditional Ghanaian naming system.  Days of the week in Ghana are very important to the naming culture.  In Ghana everyone is supposed to have a day name in addition to his/her other name.  The day of the week on which your child is born determines what he/she will be called.  The names come in pairs for each day; one for a male, the other for a female born on that day.  Kwame actually means - boy born on Saturday. Our due date is February 2 which is a Monday ... could that mean that there's another Adjoa on the way?

stay tuned!
